Ghee Diya
- You want to establish a daily ritual practice but do not know where to begin.
- The day ends without a moment of intentional stillness.
- Children you want to introduce to the concept of daily puja.
- A household where faith has been present but practice has been inconsistent.
| Step | What To Do |
|---|---|
| AT DUSK | Set aside five minutes. This is non-negotiable time not after the dishes, not after the call. At dusk. |
| STEP 1 | Light the Ghee Diya. The flame is the anchor. Everything else is optional if the diya burns. |
| STEP 2 | Light the fragrance of your Ishta Devata your chosen deity. Monday for Shiva. Tuesday for Hanuman. Wednesday for Ganesha. Thursday for Vishnu. Friday for Lakshmi. Saturday for Shani. Sunday for Surya. |
| FIVE MINUTES | Sit. Or stand. No phone. No agenda. Just the flame and the fragrance. |
- At dusk only: Sandhya is specific. Morning and night are different rituals. This belongs to dusk
- Five minutes is enough: This ritual does not ask for more. Do not let the perfect be the enemy of the consistent.
- Rotate by day: Monday is Shiva. Friday is Lakshmi. Match the fragrance to the deity of the day
- Children are welcome: The Sandhya Vandanam is traditionally a family ritual. Include children from any age.
- The transition from day to evening becomes conscious: The most consistent change. You stop crashing into the evening without noticing it.
- Children develop a relationship with the concept of daily prayer: Not imposed. Absorbed. That is the difference.
- The home holds a different quality at night: After the ritual, the home keeps something of it. People who come in after it notice.
Sandhya Vandanam
